The plural of maples

The plural of palm trees is sunlight.
The plural of sunlight is cactus.

My view maintained a floral shadow
in her absence, which I sat and watched

perish. The plural of living is
half-lives. Beauty, mother of error. Error,

mother of my mid-to-late thirties,
recount once more my demise—

once upon a time, an oak woke to find
herself a document, which a farmer

folded neatly and planted on a hillside.
The plural of sunlight watched on, hapless.

The plural of human is history, horses.
The plural of maples is mapless.
